Proximity Games
This interactive public artwork aims to be exhibited via a large urban screen such as the Big Screen in Liverpool and Manchester. Imagine a dormant virtual world with four seasons projected individually every week for the public to ‘play’ with. The 3D inhabitants of the virtual world will come to life and populate the world as soon as they are prompted by the proximity of a Bluetooth signal from a mobile phone.
The public become immediate players, depending on their position within the public space and their mobility through the active Bluetooth zone, to control characters and to navigate through the projected world.
The public are encouraged to take ownership of their 3D character and network with other people within the active zone to explore the world unfolding above them. The longevity and history of the virtual world will depend on how many people gathers in clusters to watch the world at play, move away from and within the zone whilst Bluetooth is switched on their mobile phones.
Each week a new season and new inhabitants will be introduced to change both the game-play and mood of the public artwork over a four week period. At the end of each season the history of the world as created by the public will be played back.
